Every 4 years, the world's most talented soccer, er, football, players gather for a sporting event that can easily be described as hot sex vying to score more than the opposing team of hot sex. Yes, I'm talking about the World Cup. And yes, its one of the greatest sporting events ever created.
The last time the World Cup rolled around in 2006, it was held in Germany. If memory serves correctly, it managed to rain during almost every single match...or at least that's what sticks out in my mind. Hey, call it selective memory. I'm sure the players didn't favor the inclement playing conditions, but let me tell you, it made for quite the boost in female viewership! I was hooked.
Anywhere else in the world, soccer players command a following normally reserved for rock stars. Yet in America, their popularity has continued to be slow on the uptake; with football, basketball, baseball and even (ugh) hockey garnering most of the attention from the American public.
That's why for this year's tournament in South Africa, I created a, "Girl's Guide to the 2010 World Cup". What can you expect to learn from the GG? Definitely no boring stats, predictions or team rankings here. I've been meticulously scouring all 32 teams to bring you the hottest guys of the 2010 World Cup (no thanks needed). Don't get me wrong, I fully appreciate the hard work these athletes have put in and the skills they possess, but in order to get the ladies to tune in, lets focus on the more visual assets each team has to offer!
The games run from Friday, June 11th through Sunday, July 11th. That's a full month of hottness to take in, so its best if we jump in gradually. Let's kick things off with an introduction to the two teams playing in the very first match this Friday: South Africa vs. Mexico!
Mexico: Carlos Vela
Say helllooooo to #11 Forward, Carlos Vela. At 5'10", this 21 year old cutie boasts fast feet, great hair and big, brown puppy dog eyes. Seriously, how cute is he? He's even been called a "Mexican Prodigy". Not too shabby.
Vela was born in Cancun, but lives in London in the off season. Growing up, Carlos played basketball and football but quickly excelled at soccer after he learned to play from the people around him, including his brother.
When asked about The World Cup, Vela (who is known for his goal scoring abilities), told reporters, "I'm very excited. It is a dream to play in the World Cup. It is what you work towards every day for your country."
Weaknesses
His defensive game, specifically his ability to position himself correctly.
Strengths
His speed and his skills dribbling the ball. Oh, and a quick google search comes up with no current romantic attachments. Score!
South Africa: Tsepo Masilela
My pick for the hottest guy on the South African team goes to #3 Defender, Tsepo Masilela. Does anyone else think the 25 yr old footballer resembles a young LL Cool J? Maybe its just the angle, but whatever it is, it works for him! Would it be too much to ask for him to have dimples?
Born in Witbank, South Africa, Tsepo, is the first South African footballer to make his full international debut before signing a professional contract. And at 5'8", he's also been described as having "boundless reserves of energy" and has many believing he's the most accomplished young player to come out of the South African scene in years.
Tsepo seems to feel the pressure to live up to those expectations as he recently was quoted saying, "I would like to prove I could do a good job in European football and there would be no better place to come to the attention that at the World Cup in South Africa."
Weaknesses: Weak with his right foot and is not strong in aerial battles.
Strengths: Solid in attacks and comfortable on the ball.
Definitely one to look out for ladies!
Next Up:
Stop back tomorrow for Friday's second match of the day. Uruguay vs. France. Ooh La La!
awesome! I had planned to do the same picking out the hottest boys on each team and their numbers so the ladies can track "players of interest" for every match up. who's in??!!
